Online Counseling & Coaching | Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a video camera for internet counseling/coaching sessions?

It is not required, unless you are interested in having video sessions. It is also highly recommended that you use broadband internet (Cable, DSL) for those video sessions. Otherwise, sessions are completed over the phone, with email support as needed.

Q: How do I set up an internet counseling session?

Fill out the form on the website and we will contact you to schedule an appointment time and answer any questions you have.

Q: How do I begin an online session?

If a session is being completed over the phone, you will provide us with your contact number and we will call you at the appointed time (this is so long-distance charges are not billed to you, though if you are using your cell phone your cell phone company will likely charge you minutes). If the session is by video, log on to Skype and we will connect from there (you will need to provide us with your username before beginning sessions).

Q: What problems are appropriate for online therapy?

We can address just about any personal problem or goal. How to create a healthy relationship, low self-esteem issues, along with most other concerns are ideally suited for e-therapy. We can discuss issues such as codependence, internet/porn addiction, dysfunctional families, depression, anxiety, healthy relationships. When and if the need requires more in-depth therapy, we will refer you to the appropriate sources, making this in itself a valuable service. Online counseling is not appropriate for people who are suicidal or suffering from a psychotic disorder or for those under 18.

Q: How do you set up video sessions?

The software we use is Skype. It is free if you are calling other Skype users. We use this software because it's connections are secure, reliable, free, and available to anyone with an internet connection.

Q: Will insurance cover these sessions?

While some insurance companies are beginning to cover online/phone sessions, most aren't, so for now, insurance will not cover these sessions.

Q: Are there any other resources?
