Learn About Travis Hill | Right ThoughtTravis Hill is a graduate of the University of Memphis where he received a Master of Science degree in Counseling. Travis worked on many research projects, including clients' experiences in psychotherapy as well as looking at the strength of preconceived ideas in clinicians about clients. Travis is currently a licensed professional counselor. Travis is a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, and the International Society for Mental Health Online.

Travis had an interest in human thought and behavior and peoples abilities to overcome difficulties and stresses, looking to psychology and philosophy for answers. After being ranked 8th in the world as a black belt in high school, Travis turned his pursuits to academics, psychology in particular, upon attending college. Travis' psychotherapy work can be described as cognitive-behavioral, looking at people's problems and abilities from a rational and emotional perspective, with an emphasis on the choices we make in relationships, work, and life and how these choices affect us.

In almost all of my work with my clients, I emphasize freedom and responsibility through choices. I decided to start Right Thought as a way to increase the choices that people have in choosing who their therapist is. Currently, there are many limitations of psychotherapy, mainly that meeting face-to-face limits a client's choice on who they can meet with. This may not be a problem in very large cities, as there are many therapists to choose from. But what if you live in an area without access to some (if any) therapists? What if you can't find a therapist who suits your needs and who you feel comfortable with? Right Thought was created to address this problem. By utilizing video, phone, and email communications, I am able to bring my services effectively to those who may not otherwise access them.

Online counseling has been proven in research to be effective in many areas and for many reasons.

  • Distance is no longer an issue and access becomes easier.
  • It is usually more cost-effective.
  • Some people find that working with their therapist online is less intimidating.
  • It works especially well if the client's problem itself prevents him/her from seeking help (such as agoraphobia- the fear of open spaces or going outside).
  • Scheduling is easier, as you do not have to worry about heavy traffic or finding a babysitter.
